After university, I said I’d never go back to school.
A few years later, I was surrounded by people eager to get a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). All I wanted was on-the-job experience and to ceilidh dance in my spare time, having arrived in Scotland from Australia.
I got that experience (as well as a bunch of great friends and lots of ceilidh dancing) at Hound Dog Technology, the first tech start-up I joined in 2008. I was working with email marketing, search engine optimisation, Google Adwords and webinars. I didn’t realise it at the time, but I was working as a digital marketer.
Fast forward to today and I have started studying for a ‘Diploma of Professional Digital Marketing’ from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
Why did I change my mind?
Because the world is changing fast and so is marketing. With my focus on working with impact-driven technology companies in 2022, I want to update my knowledge and skills and bolster my confidence so I can do my best work.
It’s both scary and exciting, so I know I’m on the right track.
